I always use this example when talking to groups about blindness. I start out by asking if anyone ever opened the wrong side of a box of milk. When they start laughing and raising their hands, I respond with the statement "I never do because I read the box". I then begin to explain that I read the natural Braille as opposed to the print on the box. All milk boxes have a seam on one corner where the box is made. This corner is on the opposite side of the box from where the spout is opened. If the seam were on the same side as the spout the box would rip apart when opened. So feeling this seam immediately lets you know which side to open. Because I find the seam by touch I refer to it as natural Braille. That is how and why I say that I read the box before opening. My wife purchases whole milk for me and skim milk for herself. By stretching a rubber band around the whole milk box it becomes very easy for me to identify.
